    TOP STORY

An emotional Tiger Woods fought back tears after completing one of the greatest comebacks in sport with victory in the season-ending Tour Championship amid amazing scenes in Atlanta.

And only a birdie on the 72nd hole from Justin Rose prevented Woods from claiming the overall FedEx Cup title as well, Rose two-putting from 25 feet on the par-five 18th to claim the £7.6million bonus in nerve-racking fashion.

Chasing a first win since 2013 and the 80th PGA Tour title of his career, Woods took a three-shot lead over Rose and Rory McIlroy into the last day at East Lake.

And the 14-time major winner was never in serious danger of getting caught despite a late stumble, completing a closing 71 to finish 11 under par, two shots ahead of fellow American Billy Horschel.

    FOOTBALL

Barcelona and Girona played out an enthralling 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou last night.

There were four goals, one for Lionel Messi and two for Girona’s Cristhian Stuani, not to mention a controversial red card shown to Barca defender Clement Lenglet.

Gerard Pique salvaged a point for the hosts to complete his own blockbuster night, after clearing one shot off the line and making mistakes for each of Girona’s goals. Read our report card and ratings from the match.

In other news, Croatia and Real Madrid star Luka Modric returns to London tonight with the best chance of being named FIFA’s player of the year anyone other than Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo has had for a decade.

That decision will be the climax of the Best FIFA Football Awards show at the Royal Festival Hall, with the 90-minute ceremony being broadcast online from 7.30pm (10.30pm UAE time).

    CRICKET

India put in yet another superlative performance to seal a spot in the final of the Asia Cup following a crushing nine-wicket win over Pakistan in their Super Four clash last night.

Pakistan batted first and after looking like they would make over 250 at one stage, were restricted to 237-7 after some excellent bowling in the death overs by India’s bowlers.

It seemed like a stiff target but openers Shikhar Dhawan (114) and Rohit Sharma (111 not out) decimated Pakistan’s bowling as the two added 210 for the opening wicket.
