Europe captain Thomas Bjorn told his players to seize their opportunity to become legends after putting his faith in his Ryder Cup rookies for Friday’s tee-off.

World number two Justin Rose led from the front for the third contest in succession, but there was no place for European talisman Ian Poulter or fellow veteran wild cards Sergio Garcia and Henrik Stenson in Friday’s opening session.

Each of Bjorn’s pairs featured a rookie alongside an experienced player, with Rose partnering Spain’s Jon Rahm against three-time major winner Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau, with Rory McIlroy and Thorbjorn Olesen facing world number one Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler in match two.

    FOOTBALL

    Juventus v Bologna FC - Serie A

Cristiano Ronaldo may have been signed with the Champions League in mind after Juventus kept falling short while dominating at home, but there’s been absolutely no sign of a change in priority.

They may take a season where they lose their grip on the domestic crown if it brings them European glory, but for now, continuing their supremacy over the Serie A remains an equal goal. This stance will be put to the test against Napoli on Saturday, in by far Ronaldo’s biggest game, thus far, as a Juve player.
