    Gareth Southgate lauded England’s players after their display of quality and courage stunned Spain in a Nations League victory that will live long in the memory.

    Raheem Sterling ended his 1,102-day wait for an international goal in style in Seville, where he opened the scoring before netting again once Marcus Rashford had fired home.

    It was a breathtaking first half that brought back memories of the 5-1 shellacking of Germany in 2001, but Spain rallied and piled on the pressure after the break as substitute Paco Alcacer pulled one back.

    Sergio Ramos grabbed another in stoppage time, but England had done enough to secure a 3-2 victory that underlines the progress being made by the World Cup semi-finalists.

    Sergio Ramos hopes the people of Spain can believe in the international team following their 3-2 defeat to England in Seville on Monday.

    It was La Furia Roja’s first home defeat to England in 31 years, ending Luis Enrique’s unbeaten start to life as manager following his appointment in July.

    Elsewhere, Brazil forward Neymar said he hopes Lionel Messi will return to play for Argentina one day as it is a “pity” he is not involved with the international squad at present.

    Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has denied reports of a rift with coach Mickey Arthur after the latter revealed the skipper had gone against his advice and decided not to bowl Mohammad Abbas first-up on the fifth and final day of the Dubai Test.

    In other news, Australian skipper Tim Paine vowed his team would do its utmost win the second Test against Pakistan starting in Abu Dhabi today for a first series win in Asia since 2011. Action gets underway in Abu Dhabi from 10am.
