    TOP STORY

Real Madrid have confirmed the appointment of Santiago Solari as their permanent head coach following his successful spell in caretaker charge.

Solari oversaw four-consecutive victories in all competitions, with 15 goals scored, as Real’s interim boss following the departure of Julen Lopetegui last month and has now been handed the reins full-time until June 2021.

Last season’s Champions League winners Real are four points behind leaders Barcelona in the La Liga table.

A short statement on the club’s website read: “The board of directors of Real Madrid CF, which met today, November 13, 2018, has agreed to appoint Santiago Solari as first-team coach until June 30, 2021.”

Wayne Rooney understands why his international return might divide opinion but hopes such occasions become the norm for England greats of the future.

Nobody has scored more goals for the national team, nor has any outfield player represented the Three Lions more, but news of the 33-year-old’s one-off comeback appearance against the United States still split opinion.

In other news, Andreas Christensen has admitted feeling a sense of frustration after gaining limited Chelsea opportunities under manager Maurizio Sarri so far this season.

The Denmark defender was a Premier League regular during the reign of Sarri’s Stamford Bridge predecessor Antonio Conte.

But his Chelsea game time this term has been restricted exclusively to the Europa League and Carabao Cup.
