    TOP STORY

Australia won their first Test match since the ball-tampering controversy as their attack blew apart the India tail for a 146-run victory.

The hosts only needed 15 overs to take the remaining five wickets in Perth and level the series at 1-1.

After starting the fifth day on 112 for five, India lost the key wicket of Hanuma Vihari for 28 when he holed out off Mitchell Starc.

From then on, it was just a matter of time before Australia sealed the win.

Rishabh Pant, who raced to 30 runs from 61 balls, was well caught by Peter Handscomb off Nathan Lyon and an over later Umesh Yadav popped a shot back to Starc for two.

Pat Cummins wrapped up the last two wickets in the space of four balls, Ishant Sharma edging behind for a duck and Jasprit Bumrah launching a shot high into the Western Australian sky with Cummins positioning himself to take the catch.

    FOOTBALL

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne insists he was not tired and could have started this season as he ended the last but for two freak knee injuries.

De Bruyne returned to action as a second-half substitute against Everton on Saturday, only his fourth Premier League appearance of the season and almost seven weeks after his previous outing.

In other news, Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel is ready for the “great test” of facing Manchester United in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Being paired against the runaway Ligue 1 leaders PSG was perhaps not the kindest outcome which under-pressure United boss Jose Mourinho would have been hoping for.

    CRICKET

Come Friday, it will be a dream come true for Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane as he gets ready to make his maiden appearance in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL).

Playing in Australia’s T20 franchise league has been an ambition of Lamichhane’s ever since he played grade cricket in Sydney two years ago after being discovered by former Aussie skipper Michael Clarke.

That dream was realised for the teenage leg-spinner this year when he was drafted in as an overseas player by the Melbourne Stars.

The wrist-spinner’s stock has been on the rise of late in the world of T20 cricket after he became the first Nepalese player to earn a contract in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
