Sixth Edition of Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy International Show Jumping Cup concludes

    The sixth Edition of Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy (FBMA) International Show Jumping Cup 2019 came to conclusion with riders competing for a total prize purse of Dhs 650,000.

    The competition included 14 rounds, six of which were CSIL2-star (ladies only), two rounds of young horses’ category for those aged between six and seven years old (CSIYH1-star), two rounds of children’s events for kids aged between 12–14 (CSIOCH), two rounds of junior riders category for riders aged between 14–18 (CSIOJ), as well as two rounds of young riders category for those between 16 – 21 years old. (CSIOY).

    Spectators also witnessed a local competition in parallel to the main event – held under the patronage of Al Shira`aa Stables – where participation was limited to the female riders of UAE equestrian clubs and centers. The competition consisted of a special two phases class with obstacles placed at a height of 110 cm. 62 female riders participated, of which 16 completed both rounds without faults. Noof Hamdan Al Maheri, with ‘Bell Bottom Blues’ from Al Hamra Equestrian Centre took first place. Holly Ann Coward, with ‘Connor McCloud’ from Al Ruwayyah Stable, won the second national competition, a one-round with jump-off, with jumps at a height of110 cm. 64 female riders participated, of which 17 completed the round without faults, and eight completed the jump-off round without faults.

    Speaking on the addition to the show, Dr. Ghanem Al Hajri, Secretary General of UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation said: “The purpose of these national competitions is to encourage young female riders to compete, especially those who wish to sharpen their skills and build up their confidence when it comes to professionally competing in the world of show jumping.” He continued, “We’re very happy with the level of participation and the skill that was displayed by these young riders.”

    H.E. Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, President of the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation added: “We’ve had such a great turn-out from a number of talented riders and wish everyone luck in the upcoming President of the UAE Cup. It is through the support of the royal family, that the level of equestrian sports in the UAE has been elevated.” Also, in attendance was H.E Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and H.H. Sheikha Shamsa Bint Hasher Al Maktoum and other members of the royal family.

    American rider, Alice Debany Clero, with ‘Amareusa S’ succeeded in securing a thrilling victory as she won the sixth edition of the FBMA International Show Jumping Cup of CSIL2-star. 20 female riders took part, of which five managed to complete the main round without any faults and continued to compete in the jump-off round which they completed without faults as well. Time would prove the deciding factor. Debany was the fourth participant in the jump-off round and completed it in the best time in 38.83 seconds. The second place went to the Norwegian rider, Anita Annika Sande, who rode on her horse For Cash 2, and ended the round in 39.09 seconds. The third place was taken by the British rider, Georgia Tame, and her horse ‘Cash Up’ who finished the round in 39.42 seconds, while the UAE’s Nadia Abdul Aziz Taryam won fourth place on her horse ‘Askaria 3’ after completing the jump-off round in 39.63 seconds.

    The Six Bars competition tested the skill, endurance and competitiveness of both horse and rider, and was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs. 23 female riders participated in the competition, a number of participants that showcases just how far female riders have come in the sport, and the confidence they have in their horses to participate in such a feat that is the six bars competition. The six obstacles are placed in a straight line and as the main round starts, the obstacles are placed at a height of 140 cm – 18 female riders completed the round
