  • The Hatta Hills Run makes its four appearance next month and while it promises to be a challenging race, you can still sign up with registration remaining open.

Organised by Super Sports Events, the race will see runners compete on different routes surrounding the Hatta Fort Hotel complex on Friday, March 8.

Whether you’re a beginner or experienced athlete, the race is open for all abilities with 3, 5, 10 and 21.1km distances to choose from.

Those competing in the longer format will tackle the tartan surface, and then face a steep hill before navigating their way through the mountain range and onto an off-road track.

Half Marathon runners will then branch off toward the Hatta Municipal Park and suburbia area before facing a 24% steep gradient incline as they ascend to the top of Hatta Dam for some breathtaking views of the dam and majestic Hajar Mountain Range.

The route for the 3 and 5km courses will be far easier but challenging as the competitors run around the hotel’s complex.

“The aim with this race is to offer runners something different to the urban city runs and by staging the race in Hatta they get to see a bit more of the country and what the surrounding areas have to offer,” said Warren Van Der Merwe, race director of Super Sports Events.

“We also want to offer the entire family an opportunity to participate on the day. The 21.1km, 10km and 5km runs will take athletes out of the hotel grounds and along the main road of Hatta while the 2.5km trail run is aimed at all the junior and social runners with some spectacular views of Hatta from the top of the steep climb.”

Entry fees vary between Dh125 and Dh225 depending on the distance, which includes a medal, refreshments and electronic chip timing.
