  • New Balance is one of the fastest growing Athletic brands in the GCC. Their running category is fuelling their accelerated growth and their FuelCell franchise is the catalyst.

Built to power up your run, the new FuelCell formulation technology was created by the New Balance Innovation Design Studio with the goal of making fast even faster.

To celebrate the launch of this amazing innovation in running footwear, New Balance Run Club (NBRC) have initiated the Fastest Mile Challenge. The challenge got under way on October 16 and finishes on November 20 with runners encouraged to get their fast on.

Run a mile, then do it again, get down to the NBRC and run it there and let them track your progress as you prepare for the final event on November 20.

New Balance and their influencers are giving you the fuel to deliver your fastest mile in the form of FuelCell prizes.

Ranging from a pair of FuelCell Rebels or Propels to the look of FuelCell (FuelCell footwear and running apparel) there is plenty of incentive to take up the challenge.

For the fastest of the fast, there is a very limited edition FuelCell kit which comprises of a collector’s item FuelCell 5280 and the FuelCell Rebel.

If you can’t commit to the weekly NBRC Fastest Mile Challenge there’s the opportunity to take it up on the Ultimate Race Night on November 14, which has the competition woven into a plethora of other track and field events on offer.

To make it accessible for everyone and to encourage greater participation, the Ultimate Race Night costs only Dh70 for four events.

Ultimate Athletics has five locations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. More information about the club’s coaches and their Ultimate Race Nights can be found on their website at ultimateathleticsuae.com.

Naturally one of the most fruitful elements of New Balance’s partnership with Ultimate Athletics is in developing young talents.

New Balance is committed to empowering and enabling movement, helping young athletes such as Nikita Manian and Yannick Kraus to bring their dreams to reality.

Nikita is Ultimate Athletics’ most decorated sprinter as she holds all Race Night records for the 100m and 200m at under-17 level while notching best times for DASSA schools. The 16-year-old has also won a sports scholarship to Gems Metropole School in Motor City.

Then there is Yannick, a multi-talented young pentathlete with a big future ahead having established himself as a standout and versatile performer in both the DASSA Championships and Ultimate Athletics’ Race Nights in recent years.

He’s fresh from a summer to remember following a stunning pentathlon performance which saw him leap to the top of the German national rankings for his age group.

As New Balance’s young athletes put their names on the running map, there are plenty of locations for you to plot your own course.

New Balance is available in leading retailers across the GCC, including the likes of GO Sport, Foot Locker, Namshi, Intersport, The Athletes Foot, Courir, Sports Corner and El Faleh to name a few.

The team will train you in drills to bring about improvement while advising on technique to help you run better. Training is held at various locations around Dubai, as well as Abu Dhabi, throughout the week.

The early bird catches the worm and Wednesday morning training starts bright and early at 6.15am on Umm Suqeim beach, where runners are split according to their speciality training.

Runners who want to go 10K and over head of with coach Michael for a longer run, focused on tempo and endurance.

The 5K and under runners split off into a group led by coach Khalid, for a shorter internal repetitions session that focuses more on speed endurance. Monday night training take place at Dubai Sports City, one of Dubai’s most iconic sporting locations, from 7.15pm.

There is a regular weekly turnout of around 50 runners, but this is growing constantly, with athletes meeting for a speed interval session totalling between 35km.

Until November 20, both NBRC training sessions will be geared towards the Fastest Mile Challenge training.
