  • Crowning glory: Al Jokar.

Al Jokar were finally crowned futsal champions at their third attempt in three years at the third Nad Al Sheba (NAS) Ramadan Sports Tournament that concluded at the NAS Sports Complex on Friday.

Having lost on both previous occasions to Fohood Zabeel, Al Jokar finally came good in the final of the third edition against Fohood Jumeirah 4-2.

In attendance at the final was French legend Zinedine Zidane along with Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council among others.

Sheikh Mansour Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum presented trophies to the winners of the futsal, volleyball and wheelchair basketball competitions in the presence of Mattar Al Tayer, vice-chairman of Dubai Sports Council, Ahmed Al Manana, chairman of the Higher Organising Committee for NAS Ramadan Sports Tournament and tournament director Hassan Al Mazrouei.

It was Brazilian Robson Edelson Dos Santos who gave Al Jokar the lead in the very first minute. But, Franklin Douglas Cavalante drew level seven minutes later as the two sides went in for the break 1-1.

In the second half, Al Jokar inc-reased the intensity of their attacks. As expected, the Fohood Jumeirah citadel fell in the sixth minute with Dos Santos darting in to meet a corner kick by Fernando Cosme Nascimento. Six minutes later, Carlos Vagner Filho drilled one home from close range and Nascimento lobbed into an unattended goal to make it 4-1 in favour of Al Jokar.

However, Fohood Jumeirah ref-used to give up and managed to score a second time and make it 4-2 when Bader Ibrahim Saeed scored.
