Sport360 picks out the highlights of the sporting Twittersphere with Philipe Coutinho, Caroline Wozniacki, Joey Barton, Floyd Mayweather and Kevin-Prince Boateng all featuring.
The Premier League is back which means our timelines were flooded with football tweets last weekend providing play-by-play commentary during the matches. David Silva’s performance during Manchester City’s 3-0 win over West Brom earned many plaudits while Liverpool fans – headlined by their No1 supporter Caroline Wozniacki – were happy with their team’s opening victory against Stoke.
If there is one player in The Premier League I would pay to watch, it’s David Silva. He is a genius. https://t.co/oyF3GLFk8w

A very impressive performance from Manchester City. Silva is different gravy!

@DietmarHamann what about Silva Didi. Just level above. How important is he for the Spanish NT recovery. Brilliant tonight.

Barton on the receiving end of hammering
When news broke that West Ham were going to sign Joey Barton people on the internet did what they do best: dug up two year old tweets from West Ham chairman David Gold criticising Barton for exchanging insults with Dietmar Hamann on social media in January 2013.
“@modgooner: @DavidGoldWHU what do you make or Barton hamman exchange? Barton is vile IMO Barton has a problem and should seek help. dg
— David Gold (@davidgold) January 14, 2013
“@GeorgeFloyd4: What would you do if Big Sam said he wanted to sign Barton? Give Sam some time off, get away for a few days. dg

@trevor8sinclair @Joey7Barton @whufc_official ahead of Alex Song? We have so many better Cm’s

With good mobile players around him you’ll be surprised what he can bring plus he has gr8 combative qualities https://t.co/dpO8AlJFnC

I don’t see J Barton a good move for West Ham I gotta say
— Don Hutchison (@donhutch4) August 10, 2015
9 – West Ham are hoping to sign Joey Barton to ensure they don’t qualify for the Europa League again in 9 months time. Fairplay.

Bucaneers are no pioneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced the launch of an embarrassingly sexist new programme, RED, designed to offer female fans tailored insight into the world of pro football. Naturally the reaction was not great.
Fearless prediction: The Buccaneers’ RED channel is gonna go down faster than Josh McCown behind the 2014 O-line.
— Doug Farrar (@SI_DougFarrar) August 6, 2015
Next up for RED and Tampa Bay Buccaneers a presentation on how to repurpose the penalty flag as a pocket square for your man.

Is it okay to wear your hair in a ponytail on game day? We discuss next on RED!

Mayweather gets roasted
Ronda Rousey has new fans. Why? Because Floyd Mayweather fired at her, saying she can call him when she “makes over $300 million in 36 minutes”.
Love how Floyd Mayweather said to “call me” when Rousey makes 300M in 36 minutes. He didn’t say “text me”, he wouldn’t be able to read it.
— Eric Kowalik (@EricKowalik) August 7, 2015
If it only takes 36 mins for Floyd Mayweather to make 300 mill, I would love if he could take 5 minutes of his time to pay for my tuition.

Tweetlets
Sloane Stephens celebrated her maiden WTA title, Juventus striker Fernando Llorente is warming to Italy more and more, Kevin-Prince Boateng, who failed to secure a move to Sporting CP in Portugal, found solace in a surprise meeting with LeBron James while British boxing legend Chris Eubank obviously isn’t a fan of Alan Partridge and was demanding answers… much to everyone’s amusement. Anyone for monkey tennis?
