  • The inaugural SPIA Asia will take place in the Philippines this October.

The Sports Industry Awards (SPIA), established by Sport360 in 2012, continue to make remarkable strides with the announcement of the inaugural SPIA Asia – Sports Industry Awards & Conference 2015.

What started off as a platform to celebrate the stellar achievements of the Middle East sports industry, has now expanded to include the whole continent.

The much anticipated event – to be held on Friday, October 2, at New World Makati Hotel in Manila, Philippines – is organised by MMC Sportz and Sport360 under the sanction of the Philippines Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee.

The black tie-gala event will recognise achievements in 10 individual categories – both professional and community-focused – and a shortlist was revealed following 168 entries registered from 10 South East Asian countries including the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos, Brunei and Hong Kong.

“The Sports Industry Awards is a unique and powerful platform to reflect, showcase and reward the ambitions and achievements of the sports industry in the region,” said Didier Brun, Publisher and Deputy CEO of Sport360, the world’s only English language daily sports newspaper.

“The growth and success of the sports industry in Asia is well documented now and it contributes massively to enhancing the overall lifestyle and experience of the many fans of the game living here, as well as to the overall economic and tourism development. We are very excited to now also present the Sports Industry Awards in Asia.”

MMC Sportz, a sports marketing and communication agency and the pioneers behind many successful partnership and events including the staging of the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL), are Sport360’s partners.

Explaining the decision to host the inaugural SPIA Asia in Philippines, Eric Gottschalk, CEO of MMC Sportz, said: “One of the objectives of bringing SPIA Asia to the Philippines is to highlight the tremendous developments within sports which are currently taking place there and which might not be known to many outside of the country.

“The awards and conference are the perfect networking opportunity for the industry in a new and developing market and we are happy to have received the support of the local governing bodies for our initiative.”

Guillermo Iroy Jr., Executive Director of the Philippine Sports Commission, was delighted to be a part of the inaugural SPIA Asia and is confident his country will benefit from the spotlight.

“SPIA will help elevate the awareness in the sport industry and recognise their contributions to the development of sports,” said Iroy Jr.

“The PSC is very thankful for bringing SPIA to the Philippines when its organisers could have brought it to another SEA country instead. This will be the first time the Philippines hold this kind of event.”

SPIA Asia is supported by New World Makati Hotel, Philippine Airlines, Fox Sports, International New York Times, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Global Sports Business and Asian Sponsorship News.
