  • [L-R] Bronze, Baros, Davis.

The former Liverpool striker will forever be etched in the minds of Reds supporters for his contribution in the 2005 Champions League final. That was to somehow get out of the way of Vladimir Smicer’s crucial goal in that famous comeback, mind.

Now playing for Mlada Boleslav back in his home country the Czech Republic, Baros turns 34 today and is still considered a cult hero in England. He won admiration for his sheer determination to stamp his authority on the game and his energetic runs.

He could score, too and was the top-scorer in Euro 2004 with five goals in five games as the Czech Republic reached the semi-finals.

Later sold to Aston Villa, success followed when he went on to win Ligue 1 with Lyon, the FA Cup with Portsmouth and the Super Lig with Galatasaray. His international 41 goals is second behind Jan Koller.

1972: Terrell Davis, a former running back who played for the NFL’s Denver Broncos from 1995 to 2001 (43).

1981: Nate McLouth, an American professional baseball outfielder for the Washington Nationals of the MLB (34).

1984: Bryn Evans, New Zealand rugby union player who plays for Sale Sharks in the Aviva Premiership (31).

1991: Lucy Bronze, female footballer who plays for Manchester City Women in the FA WSL and for England (24).
