  • Close win: Lewis Hamilton.

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton had narrowly lost out on the F1 world championship in 2007, when after a remarkable debut season he let slip a huge lead in the final two races to allow Kimi Raikkonen steal the crown. In 2008, he was once again in the hunt.

Going into the final race of the season in Brazil, Hamilton was on 94 points and title rival Felipe Massa on 87.

The race turned out to be a humdinger and a shower looked to have hurt Hamilton’s chances when he dropped to sixth after a stop for wet tyres.

Massa went on to win the race but Hamilton passed Toyota’s Timo Glock and grabbed the fifth place he needed at the last corner to became the youngest world champion in F1 history.

2006: New Zealand are stripped of the two Tri-Nations points earned in the 18-14 win over Great Britain after it emerged that hooker Nathan Fien was not eligible to play for them.

2013: Rohit Sharma smashes 209 against Australia in the Bangalore ODI to help seal a series win. It was the third double-century by an Indian in ODIs.
