DSU Daredevils emerge as champions of the ADIB Staff Cricket Cup

  • DSU Daredevils were crowned champions of the inaugural ADIB Staff Cricket Cup after they beat Card United Eleven in the final held at Abu Dhabi on Friday.

    The Daredevils triumphed by 74 runs in a summit clash which brought the curtains down on an action-packed final day at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

    The comprehensive win earned DSU Daredevils a glittering trophy along with lucrative cash prize of 15, 000 AED. Meanwhile, Card United Eleven walked home with a cool 10,000 AED for their runners-up effort on the day. Each member of the winning and runners-up team were also recognised with a medal and certificate.

    The cheques were presented by Saif Al Alkeem – Head of Priority Banking, Head of Wealth Management and Liabilities, Head of ADIB Club.

    Friday’s action got underway with the quarter-final clashes at the two Ovals in Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium. DSU Daredevils off proceedings with a four-wicket win over DTS XI, while Group Risk recorded a 89-run victory over the DTS Lions.

    Card United Eleven and ADIMAC Tigers were the other two teams to advance to the semi-final, with 30-run and 21-run victories over Trail Blazers and Trade Cheetas respectively.

    The first semi-final saw DSU Daredevils take on Group Risk, with the former ultimately prevailing by three wickets in a run chase of 138. Card United XI booked their ticket to the final with a similar margin of victory over ADIMAC Tigers. The Tigers’ total of 126-4 was unable to stop Cards Eleven United’s march in a hard-fought clash.

    Habib Ur Rahman’s tally of 380 runs earned him the Top Scorer of the Tournament trophy along with a cheque of 3,000 AED. MD Farooque Imtiyaz bagged the Top Wicket-taker of the Tournament trophy and prize money for the same amount after claiming 10 scalps overall.
