With a few weeks to go until the February 3 event, the first of the 2016 series, there’s still time to sign up and see why it has earned rave reviews from around the world.

The UAE are fortunate to host plenty of running races but the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is one that stands out from the rest.

The route will see each of the 10 team members run individually for one mile each, running around the Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC) buildings, past cafes and restaurants, into surrounding pathways as well as navigating any stairs that come their way.

Standard Chartered Bank, J.P. Morgan, EFG Hermes, Clyde & Co, Dubai Mercantile Exchange and Tecom are just some of the companies who will take to the course with the event open to runners of all abilities. There’s plenty to play for as the team that achieves the fastest 10 laps will be crowned champions, with a chance to donate the Dh30,000 prize money to a charity of their choice.

The Square Mile Relay has witnessed great turnouts in London and Hong Kong, among other places.

The race has already been a success around the world with big numbers turning out in London, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore. And organisers are confident Dubai will be equally popular.

Nick Keller, managing director of Square Mile Sport, said: “Excitement for the first Bloomberg Square Mile Relay in Dubai is already building within the corporate community in Dubai. The unique relay event taking place in the heart of Dubai’s financial district is a great opportunity for companies to take part in a team-building and corporate networking activity whilst enjoying the atmosphere and camaraderie.”

Raja Al Mazrouei, senior vice president – marketing and corporate communications at DIFC Authority, added: “The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay encourages interaction and networking within the DIFC community and beyond. We are already seeing great interest in the event with a competitive streak amongst the companies in the DIFC building.” Entry fee is Dh5,500 per team which also includes an event t-shirt, admission to the after-party as well as a meal.
