Ghantoot see off Habtoor to retain Bentley Emirates Gold Cup

  • Victors' spoils: Ghantoot have established themselves at the top of the Polo pyramid in Dubai.

    Ghantoot ADCB successfully defended their Bentley Emirates Gold Cup title yesterday, defeating Habtoor Polo 7-5 in the final.

    Ali Al Merri, Oscar Colombres, Facundo Sola and Pelayo Berazadi successfully defended their 2013 title and also raised the second trophy in a row at the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series after also winning the McLaren Silver Cup.

    Ghantoot took control of the game from the first chukka despite some great reaction by Habtoor in the last seven minutes to close the gap to only two goals.

    Berazadi was adjudged the MVP of the final and Cenicienta, ridden by Facundo Sola, was the best pony of the game.

    Before the final, Mahra defeated Bin Drai in over time 8-7 to raise the Power Horse Cup.

    A great goal scored by Santiago Cernadas gave patron Rashid Al Habtoor’s team the victory after a tight match full of emotion and great polo.

    With the coronation of Ghantoot ADCB as the best team of the season the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series 2014 came to an end.

    After a record of 10 teams took part during the season, and a superb level of competition being played throughout, the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series continues to grow on the international polo calendar.

    Dubai is now one of the most attractive spots in the world for polo and next year, with the handicap level increasing to 18 goals, the best players and great polo is guaranteed.
