  • Sha'Red (c) storms to victory in Abu Dhabi.

Majed Al Jahouri-trained Sha’Red beat stable companion Areem in the 1,400m Liwa Oasis for Purebred Arabians yesterday evening.

Areem made a brave effort under Ahmed Ajtebi but had no answer to the determined challenge of Sha’Red and Silvestre De Sousa.

Connections were registering a double and it was a case of 13th time lucky in the opening 1,400m maiden with Silvestre De Sousa registering a comfortable victory on the Al Jahouri-trained Da’Areen.

Only four went to post in the 2,400m Group 3 third and final round of the Arabian Triple Crown after Shaheer, winner of last week’s middle leg, failed to take his chance.

This paved the way for Tadhg O’Shea to switch to stable companion Namrood, runner-up behind Shaheer seven days earlier, to register a comfortable success.

Monawer has not won since February 2013 but landed a 1,600m conditions race for Jaber Bittar with Jesus Rosales in the saddle.

Jockey Gerald Avranche partnered a double, winning the only thoroughbred race, a 2,200m handicap on Prince Suhail for Erwan Charpy and a 1,000m dash aboard the Eric Lemartinel-trained Ain Jaloot, who was winning for the fifth consecutive time.

The concluding 1,200m handicap was won by UBA Al Mels, trained by Mohd Ramadan and ridden by Royston Ffrench.
