  • Holding court: All participants will receive commemorative gifts.

Squash players across the nation’s capital wanting to test themselves or enjoy a competition can hit the wall full force at the AECOM Junior Squash Championship.

The tournament will be hosted by The Club in Abu Dhabi and run from Thursday, January 28 to Saturday, January 30.

Now in its third year, the Championship will follow the success of the first two editions as it extends its reach to the city’s community of young squash players of all abilities.

The tournament aims to be as accessible as possible for youngsters and grow the sport at the grassroots level. As such, all juniors are encouraged to take part, even those who may not yet be linked to an organised club but would like to join in.

“Physical activity is critical to children’s health and well-being,” said Mark Griffin, the tournament director.

“We want to get young people out of their seats and on to the courts. In addition to its obvious health and physical benefits, squash is also a great source of enjoyment to young players and introduces an early understanding of fun, fitness and competition.”

Capital gains: Participants must be residents of Abu Dhabi and under the age of 19.

The event’s categories range from under-nine to under19 for both boys and girls, with all players guaranteed to play a minimum of two matches.

Along with the chance to walk away with the first or second-place trophy, competitors can earn the sportsmanship shield and all participants will receive a commemorative gift, prize-giving dinner and an opportunity to win spot prizes.

There’s only a limited amount of time left to register for the Championship for Dh50, with ent-ries closing at 17:00 on Thursday, January 14.
