  • (L-R) Oliver Kahn, Michael Laudrup, Abdur Razzak.

One of the most legendary and iconic figures in German football’s long and illustrious history celebrates his 47th birthday today.

Oliver Kahn retired from the game in 2008 but the goalkeeper left an indelible mark on the game after a career spanning 20 years –a large portion of which was spent with Bayern Munich – between the posts.

Kahn started his career with SC Karlsruhe where he played his first Bundesliga game in 1987. He was a regular starter from 1990 before he left for Munich in 1994 to become a legend. ‘Der Titan’ would go on to win eight Bundesliga titles, six DFB-Pokals, the UEFA Cup in 1996 and the Champions League in 2000.

For Germany, he inspired a poor side to the 2002 World Cup final but his mistake for Ronaldo’s opener ultimately cost his side, though he was still named the tournament’s best player.
