  • (L-R): Jeter, Maldini and Nasri.

A New York Yankees legend through and through, the former captain is considered one of baseball’s ultimate winners.

Jeter played 20 seasons in Major League Baseball, all with one franchise as the shortstop was the driving force behind the Yankees’ five World Series titles from 1996 to 2009.

He’s the team’s all-time career leader in several categories, most notably in hits with 3,465 and games played with 2,747.

After beginning his career with American League Rookie of the Year honours in 1996, Jeter was selected as an All-Star 14 times, won five Silver Slugger Awards, five Gold Glove Awards and the World Series MVP in 2000.

Jeter reached the 3,000 hit milestone in 2011, becoming just the 28th player to do so and finished his career as MLB’s all-time hit leader for shortstops when he retired in 2014.

1968: Paolo Maldini (below), Italian former footballer for A.C. Milan and the Italy national team (48).

1980: Michael Vick, American quarterback who was drafted first overall and last played with Pittsburgh (36).

1987: Samir Nasri, French footballer for the Premier League’s Manchester City (29).

1990: Iman Shumpert, American basketball player for the NBA’s new champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers (26).
