A new and fun volleyball league is set to begin next month and you can be involved with registration still open.

As the UAE’s largest sport and social club with over 5,000 members, organisers Duplays know a thing or two about sport.
Their leagues cover a range of sports including football, cricket, badminton which receive a good turn-out, and volleyball is no different.
Titled as “Wild Nets” season, the volleyball league begins on January 12 with the eight-week competition concluding on March 2.
“Volleyball is another success to our growing portfolio of leagues that we hold at Duplays,” said Salman Raisi, assistant operations manager at Duplays.
“And with the league starting a few weeks into the new year, it’s ideal for those who want to try something new because volleyball isn’t a very demanding sport or for those whose new year resolution is to play more sports.
“It’s fun and enjoyable and in the previous editions, people have really enjoyed playing the sport which has proven to be very popular at Duplays.” The league is open for players of all abilities, aimed for those who want to test themselves against teams or just want to learn and improve their game.
While entries are open to teams, individuals can also apply and will be formed into a side in the first week.
Teams will play two matches every Monday with games best of three sets, which will be played between 19:00 and 22:00 at the GEMS World Academy in Abu Dhabi.
Players must be at least 17 years of age, with squads of no more than eight. Both men and women can take part but at least one female must be on court at all times for each team at every match.
For seven weeks, the teams will play their round-robin matches with play-offs in the eight week to determine the winners.
“We want to keep the league exciting and we feel keeping the play-offs in the final week is a good thing for all the players,” said Raisi.
“Teams who regularly play with us have already confirmed their interest and there are also some new sides competing.”
Entries cost Dh3,000 for teams while it’s Dh500 for individuals. Winners will receive dinner vouchers at a selected restaurant, trophy and medals.
