  • Pulling power: The event has grown every year.

This weekend, fitness enthusiasts in the UAE can test themselves with a series of fun and challenging obstacles as Talise Fitness’ Sandstorm makes a welcome return.

So far, more than 100 participants have confirmed their participation and will flock to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai on Friday, but you can still join them before Thursday’s deadline.

The teams (of three people) will need to climb, crawl, run or jump through a series of challenges in the 4km course which will involve land, sand and the sea.

Whatever your ability, there’s something for those who want to win or race just for fun with some of Dubai’s iconic buildings including Burj Al Arab and the Madinat Jumeirah providing the perfect view.

The Competitive level begins at 07:00, followed by the Intermediate category half an hour later before the Casual group starts their race at 08:00.

Now in its fourth edition, the event has gone from strength to strength, attracting hundreds of participants. Corporate teams, families and advanced-level athletes have all taken part in previous years and you can see for yourself why it’s hugely popular, as Friday’s competition looks set to receive the biggest turnout ever.

“Obstacle courses have become incredibly popular in Dubai and we saw an opportunity to create something a little bit different to what is currently being offered,” said Tim Dorrington, General Manager of Talise Fitness at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

“What we wanted to do was make the most of the iconic facilities that we have and give participants an experience that was not only challenging, but also a lot of fun, and something that could be enjoyed across all fitness levels.”

Even if you’re not competing,  why not cheer your family and friends throughout the competition? Viewing areas will be made available so you can watch the act-ion unfold for what promises to be a fun and closely-fought race.

Entry fee is Dh600 per team (Dh200 per person) and each member must be 16 years and over. Registration can be done by visiting www.jumeirah.com/Talisesandstorm
