  • Spirited run: The DESS inter-house competition witnessed thrilling contests.

Hundreds of Dubai English Speaking School (DESS) pupils took to the field in their annual Sports Day, resulting in exceptional team displays.

Playing for their inter-house, children aged between four and 11-years-old competed in seven different disciplines including 300 and 600 metres, jumping and throwing.

With the school producing fantastic results in their regional competitions, it was no surprise there were some thrilling contests with points up for grabs in each event.

Leopards House was the most successful triumphing three times in the Year Four, Five and Six categories.

Jaguars topped the standings in Year One and Three, while Panthers clinched the accolade in the Year Two competition.

PE teacher Mark Webster, who oversaw the Sports Day, hailed the talented displays.

“I was hugely impressed with the motivation showed by the children,” he said.

“The children are passionate about their Houses and really wanted to do well to earn points.

“It was special seeing the children competing individually and also being supported by their house teams at the same time. The support of their teams drove all the children to do their best.

“Children can participate and succeed at their own level, with their peers, in a fun, low pressure environment.’’
