They are the two stand-out teams in the NBA and it got us thinking of other big rivalries down the years.
Celtics v Lakers
Two of the most stories franchises in the league’s history made for the best rivalry. They’ve met a record 12 times in the NBA Finals, starting with their first in 1959.
Bulls v Knicks
Made intense by high-stakes contests and playoff series in the 80s and 90s; stars such as Michael Jordan and Patrick Ewing and city reputations.
Sixers v Celtics
The two teams have the most meetings in the NBA playoffs, playing each other in 19 series with Larry Bird and Dr. J the embodiment of a respectful rivalry.
Pistons v Bulls
Michael Jordan’s evolvement into one of the league’s best players in the 80s coincided with the Pistons becoming a contender for an intense rivalry.
Knicks v Heat
Brutal but entertaining, their rivalry came to a head from 1997- 2000 as they met in the postseason four years running. No a lot of basketball, but plenty of heat.
