  • Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club will host the FINA World Cup Series event.

The FINA World Cup Series comes to Abu Dhabi at the end of the month with a share of prize money and 2016 Olympic Games qualifying points up for grabs.

Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) has partnered with the world governing body for the sport of swimming to host the 10km Marathon Swimming and High Diving World Cup Competitions, taking place at Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club on the capital’s scenic Corniche from February 26-29.

More than 100 of the world’s leading male and female open water swimmers are expected to compete in the FINA/HOSA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup for qualifying points for Rio and a slice of the $60,000 (Dh220,400) prize fund.

In the FINA High Diving World Cup the world’s top 25 men’s and top 20 women’s high divers will compete for a prize fund of over Dh433,400.

A third and final event, the FINA Open Water Mass Participation Swim, will be open to swimmers of all ages and abilities in the UAE.

Distances range from a Junior Splash of 300 meters, team relays and a one mile (1,600m) swim around an elite course. Fans can sign up at www.premieronline.com.

Ahmed Abdulla Al Falasi, UAE Swimming Federation president and FINA board member, said: “We are proud to host such a high profile event. Welcoming this multitude of world-class athletes is a testament to our ongoing efforts to promote water sports across the country and inspire youth to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle.”

The three events will offer free entry and grandstand seating for all spectators.
