  • Elusive title: South African swimmer Chad le Clos won a golf medal at the London Olympics 2012.

More than 250 of the UAE’s top junior swimmers will compete in the Arena Development Swimming Gala for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet Olympic champion Chad le Clos.

Eight lucky event winners will attend a special prize-giving ceremony hosted by le Clos and Arena brand ambassador at Atlantis, The Palm in November.

The competition, taking place at The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Sports Complex, will see swimmers from the Al Wasl, Al Nasr, Al Wahda, Al Jazeera, Sports Life, Hamilton Aquatics, Al Shabab and Al Ain swimming clubs compete.

Swimmers will take on 25 and 50 metre races across the four swimming strokes.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for local swimmers to see what it takes to reach the very pinnacle of their sport,” said Mohammad A Baker, CEO of Gulf Marketing Group.

“In collaboration with brand ambassadors such as Chad, the company’s R&D process includes an intensive testing and feedback phase with its team of elite swimmers, a phase that has over the years been an integral part of the swimsuit development process.”

This will be Chad le Clos’ second visit to Dubai in as many months, after competing in the Dubai FINA / MASTBANK Swimming World Cup 2014 event, where he clinched four titles: 100m freestyle (46.24), 50m butterfly (22.02), 100m butterfly (48.59) and 200m IM (1:51.56).

With the FINA / MASTBANK Swimming World Cup 2014 series starting in Doha in August, swimming continues to increase in popularity throughout the region.

Chad will return to Doha in December to compete in the FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships.

The Chad le Clos collection will be available in 2015 at a select number of Sun & Sand Sports stores throughout the Middle East.
