  • From the start of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, which features Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy, to the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon, there is an event to suit all interests this week.

    ABU DHABI HSBC CHAMPIONSHIP

    Thursday, January 21-24

    One of the biggest events on the European Tour returns this weekend at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

    World number one Jordan Spieth headlines a strong field, including Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson, Rickie Fowler and also three-time winner Martin Kaymer.

    Can Spieth continue his strong run of form or will Kaymer’s experience guide him to a fourth time?

    STANDARD CHARTERED DUBAI MARATHON
    Friday, January 22

    The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon returns to Downtown Dubai on Friday with a record number of runners taking place.

    The race itself is set to be a thriller with an unprecedented number of former champions set to take part.

    Reigning champion Lemi Berhanu and 2014 winner Tsegaye Mekonnen confirmed their participation in the world’s richest marathon, and will be joined by 2012 winner and course record holder Ayele Abshero in the men’s field.

    In the women’s event, the hugely-talented line-up will be led by former winners Mulu Seboka (2014), Tirfi Tsegaye (2013) and Mamitu Daska (2010).

    WEST ASIA CHAMPIONSHIP
    Friday, January 22

    The West Asia Championship continues for its third consecutive weekend with in-form Doha at home to Dubai Hurricanes. Elsewhere, Stephen Hamilton and Craig Nutt’s Abu Dhabi Saracens are away to Al Ain Amblers, and Abu Dhabi Harlequins travel to Oman to face struggling Muscat.

    ARABIAN GULF LEAGUE
    Friday, January 22

    The UAE’s premier football league gets back into the swing of things with an exciting week 15 fixture list, which sees Al Ahli at home to Emirates Club and Sharjah away to Al Jazira.
