The Ramadan Bowling Tournament at Zayed Sport City saw inspiring and highly competitive performances from 39 participants with hearing impairments in the two-day disabled division competition, which came to a thrilling conclusion. Now in its second year, the disabled division of the tournament, presented by the National Drilling Company (NDC), has become a firm fixture on the sporting calendar.

Walid Mohamed Arjumand bowled an impressive score of 538 points to take the Men’s Singles event title, closely followed by Ali Aljaberi with 526 points and Adnan Ali with 520 points.

The three Men’s podium placers hail from Dubai Disabled Club, giving their team the winning edge to also take home first place in the Teams event. Fellow bowlers from Dubai put in a sterling effort to finish second, followed by Al Ain Club – A in third place.

In the Ladies Singles event, Nasra Ahmed Al Seqatri bowled her way into first place with 332 points, whilst teammate Sakeena Aziz Abdulrahman came second with 324 points. The third place prize was taken by Haikma Sayed Abdullah with 257 points.

Theban Salem Almheiri, General Secretary of UAE Disabled Sports Federation commented: “We are very happy to be included in this tournament and to be able to celebrate the spirit of Ramadan with our fellow bowlers at Zayed Sports City.”

Almheiri continued: “In our thinking, disability is a challenge. If you have this challenge and still a goal to do, life does not end. From the disability you start your own new life. These athletes train a lot and this is a great place to play, giving them great experience and support from the community.”

After her win, Al Seqatri commented on staying active and taking part in sports despite disability, saying: “Having a disability does not stop you from taking part in sports. My advice for those with disabilities is that you should never give up and you can participate in anything you want to.”

The Ramadan Bowling Tournament presented by NDC runs until 29 June at Khalifa International Bowling Centre, inside Zayed Sports City. For further information please visit the website – www.zsc.ae – or visit the Facebook page by searching ‘Zayed Sports City’.
