  • The summer camp will run from July 2 to August 30 at Al Nasr Sports Club.

The domestic cricket in the UAE might well be over but this doesn’t mean that budding cricketers should stop developing their skills this summer.

Maxtalent Global Sports, one of the top cricket academies in the country, will again be hosting their summer camp from July 2 to August 30 at Al Nasr Sports Club.

With more than a decade coaching the UAE’s stars of tomorrow, they know exactly what it takes for kids to succeed. A number of their past students have gone on to represent the national team at the Under-16 and U-19 level, while some have impressed in their inter-school MGS Vision Cups.

In addition to having experienced coaches on hand to offer their expertise, they have also roped in Joseph Onyango, a former cricketer for Kenya, who will oversee the camp.

Fitness drills and fun games are just some of the things the kids can look forward to and with their previous years drawing big numbers, Maxtalent are confident 2017 will be another big success.

“This will be the 11th year we will be hosting a summer camp at Maxtalent Global Sports,” said Sudhakar Shetty, head coach at Maxtalent Global Sports.

“Last year it was a milestone for us in reaching 10 years and the only way has been up with so many kids coming for coaching and our summer camp has been no different.

“It’s suitable for those who are not going away on vacation to spend some time on the cricket fields on working on their batting and bowling skills, while it’s also ideal for those who want to learn the basics of the game.”

Field day: Learn all aspects of cricket, from batting to bowling to fielding.

The youngsters will be able to regularly put into practice what they’ve learned in the MGS Super Bash tournament, while also knowing the importance of the mental side of being a cricketer.

“There’ll be a motivational speaker speaking to the kids as this will help them understand it’s not just your cricket skills that can win games, but also how you approach things when the game isn’t going well. It’s important for them to understand this from a young age,” added Shetty.

Sessions will be held between 17:00 and 18:30 and run on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Shetty insists there will be plenty of positives for those who sign up.

“We have seen that people who have come in the previous years have adapted to the game and enhanced their all-round knowledge and this can only help them become better cricketers which serves well for the UAE.”
