FIFA Club World Cup in the UAE: Official mascot unveiled as Real Madrid get set for tournament in December

  • Young supporters will have plenty to entertain themselves with in Abu Dhabi.

    As the anticipation builds for this year’s FIFA Club World Cup in the UAE, football fans can look forward to a wide range of activities at Yas Mall as well as meeting the tournament’s official mascot.

    The UAE will host the 13th edition of the tournament with UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid headlining the strong eight-team field for the December 6 to 16 event.

    And as part of its preparations, the tournament’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) will unveil their mascot tonight at 17:00 and open their Mobile Roadshow Experience (opposite Ferrari World entrance).

    Running from today until July 1 from until 22:00, fans can look forward to winning some fantastic prizes by testing their football skills with 12 different adrenaline-pumping challenges awaiting.

    For Aref Hamad Al Awani, tournament director of the LOC, he insists it will be a visit not to be missed.

    “We have a lot of exciting surprises for football fans, children and the public next week in celebration of Eid,” he said.

    “The FIFA Club World Cup UAE’s four-day festival will have something on offer for everyone; from children, who will enjoy meeting the official Mascot for the first time, to adults with a competitive streak who want to measure their football skills at the roadshow.”

    And if you want to see the likes of superstars Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale showcase their skills for Los Blancos later this year, tickets are still available to purchase.

    Madrid, New Zealand’s Auckland City (Oceana Football Federation) and Mexico’s Pachuca (CONCACAF) as well as four other continental champions are set to feature in the knock-out competition. Arabian Gulf League winners Al Jazira are provisionally set to play although their place could go to Al Ain if they win the AFC Champions League in November.

    Zinedine Zidane’s men will begin their title defence at Zayed Sports City in the semi-final stage against a yet-to-be-confirmed opponent on December 13 while Al Jazira begin their road with a play-off for quarter-final clash against Auckland City at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium.

    Ticket prices start from Dh20 for the early rounds and Dh80 for the December 16 third-place match and final, while corporate hospitality ranges from Dh750 and Dh1,500.
