Abu Dhabi Schools Champions closing in on finals

  • The Al Dhafra leg of the Abu Dhabi Schools Champions was a great success.

    The Al Dhafra leg of Abu Dhabi Schools Champions, which concluded last weekend at the Baynunah Complex, was a resounding success with the outstanding participation of schools and young players across various sports.

    In football, Al-Siddiq School put in a great performance, beating the Innovation School with a clean six-point win in the Boys Cycle 3 competition.

    In Cycle 2 Boys, the Asian International Private School tied with Al Dhafra School with three goals each, while Al Dhafra defeated Al-Siddiq School 5-0. Also in Cycle 2 Boys, Al Siddiq School beat the Asian School 3-0, whereas Al Dhafra school beat Bright Riders 2-0. The match between Al Dhafra school and Al Siddiq was a tough one which ended with Al Dhafra winning with penalty shots.

    In basketball competitions Cycle 3 Girls, Qatr Al-Nada School defeated Al-Hawaiten School 6-0 while the girls of Qatar Al-Nada School defeated Al-Hawaiten School with a score of 1-2.

    Al-Ruwais School achieved a difficult victory over Al-Dhafra School with a score of 2-0 in the Cycle 2 Boys volleyball competitions. In Handball Cycle 2 Boys, the Al Dhafra School and achieved a great victory over Al-Bidaa Al-Mutawa School with a score of 8-1.

    In the Swimming Cycle 2 Boys competitions, James Buckingham from Al-Ruwais Private School swam 25 meters in 14.62 seconds. In the Girls Cycle 2 competition, Janie Joubert of Al-Ruwais School, swam the same distance in 20 seconds. In the Girls cycle 3 competition, Maryam Al-Esayi from Qatr Al-Nada School swam 25 meters in 20 seconds.

    The Cycle 2 Girls competition witnessed an outstanding performance from Ghala Ismail and Fatima Al-Amri. Ghala ran 100 meters in 15.13 seconds, while Fatima Al-Amri ran the same distance in 12.87 seconds to the deafening cheers of the audience.

    In the Girls Cycle 3 competition, Fatimah Pidikkal ran 400 meters in 19 seconds whereas Aisha Elias traveled the same distance in 16 seconds and Ruba Mousa traveled the same distance in 19 seconds as well.

    In the Boys Cycle 2 competition, Lean Thomas ran 400 meters in 1 minutes and 3 seconds whereas Ashwin Beny ran the same distance in 1 minutes and 18 seconds. In Cycle 3 boys, Syd Minan ran 400 meters in 1 minute and 11 seconds and Fahd Anwar ran the same distance in one minute only whereas Mohammad Ibrahim ran the same distance in one minute and 5 seconds.

    Hussein Murad, the CEO of Inspiratus, the organizing company for Abu Dhabi Schools Champions said: “ The Al Dhafra leg of Abu Dhabi Schools Champions witnessed an outpour of private and public schools and young players across age groups who participated in all 7 sports, which are part of the Championship. The Baynounah Institute of Science and Technology, with its state of the arts sports infrastructure, was the ideal venue to host the tournament. We look forward to seeing the top teams and players competing from across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra compete against each other in the upcoming Finals.”
