Nike unveiled their latest football boots on Wednesday, the Tiempo Legend 7.
Underneath its soft leather exterior, the new Tiempo Legend 7 provides enhanced fit and comfort in a boot that is 22% lighter than its predecessor.
“It all starts with premium leather,” says Nike Football Designer Vianney de Montgolfier. “But with Tiempo Legend 7, we’ve integrated Nike Flyknit for a more dynamic fit and improved lockdown.”
The Flyknit through the midfoot encases Flywire cables that can be adjusted to preference. Flexible, lofted Flyknit throughout the tongue area helps provide cushioned coverage atop the foot. Flyknit also helps the boot retain its shape.
To help prevent overstretching of the leather toebox, Nike developed Fit-Mesh, which makes its debut inside the Tiempo Legend 7.
“Fit-Mesh is woven to act like a Chinese finger trap. The more pressure you apply, the tighter it holds” continues de Montgolfier. “It is a floating lining attached to the raised biteline of the boot, not the leather. It helps contain your foot so the leather doesn’t have to.”
With Fit-Mesh providing stability, Nike leveraged a soft, seamless leather throughout the forefoot. The leather is fused with a thin foam that provides the touch and control benefits of quilting sans perforation.
“There is not a single stitch in the strike zone of this boot,” says de Montgolfier. “The Tiempo provides pure leather to ball contact.”
The plush feel of the Tiempo Legend 7 extends all the way to the heel, where cushioned, articulated pods hug the foot in place.
Tiempo Legend 7 also marks the debut of the Nike Hyperstability plate, which is designed for multi-directional movements and helped shave 60 grams off the boot. The plate features a mixture of jagged conical studs, chevrons, and blades. As with all Nike Football boots, the precise traction pattern was refined through Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
The Tiempo Legend 7 will appear on professional athletes during the Confederations Cup.
Where to buy: On Nike.com from July 13.
Do you ever go to your favourite or nearest sports bar to watch your team play but have to get there early because of the lack of good viewing angles to see the TV?
It’s annoying, right? The venue might be conveniently situated to home, may even have a cool vibe, a decent DJ and reasonably priced food beverages. But if you can’t see the TV when the game is on, it ruins the experience.
At Velocity – Abu Dhabi’s latest venue to cheer on your boys (or girls) – viewing options aren’t an issue at all as the bar has 38 different screens. Yes, you heard correctly, it has 38 different screens, including two mammoth 6×3 metre ones that you could probably watch the game on from Dubai! For the record, that’s the same size as a full-size football goal.
All this means is that wherever you’re sitting – whether it be in one of the comfy, white leather clad booths with your pals; on a stool propped up at the bar, or the superb upstairs viewing area with a length of the room balcony – you’ll never miss a single moment of the action.
Any night of the week is a good day to head down to Velocity, which is located at the Marriott Downtown Abu Dhabi, and has been open for the last six months or so.
Velocity kindly invited Sport360 along for a evening of hospitality, clearly trying to appeal to our sport-loving nature by informing us some of the best nights to attend are during Champions League evenings.
We went down on the night European powerhouses Barcelona clashed with Juventus and Bayern Munich took on Real Madrid in the first leg of the quarter-finals.
It was lively and entertaining, both on the field and at the venue, but even if you weren’t a sports fan, there are enough secluded spots for you to hide away from the many screens and just enjoy a quieter night catching up with friends.
We were treated to complimentary beverages as well as getting to sample the food menu. Me and a friend both decided on a burger for our main course, but started off with two portions of the chicken wings to start.
They would have been enough for a main meal in themselves and the varieties of sauces and style of cooking were breathtaking. We went for the Thai style and southern fried options and were mightily impressed.
Of course, despite feeling satisfied already, we soldiered on ahead with our burgers, and we were glad we did. I went for the Velocity Burger
(100 per cent wagyu beef patty, gruyere cheese, mushroom & thyme ragout and was again impressed while my friend picked the Home Run
(100 per cent wagyu beef patty, turkey bacon, monetary jack, onion, tomato chutney and the burger did exactly what it promised to – knocked it out of the park.
As if any of the above wasn’t enough, Velocity have deals on pretty much every night of the week, including: daily happy hour from 12:00 to 00:00 with Dh18 drinks (plus fees).
Monday is Grape Night: Dh10 for a glass (NETT) from 18:00-21:00; Wednesday is Ladies Night: ladies receive five complimentary house beverages and 50 per cent off entire menu; Thursday Dh10 pints (NETT) from 16:00-19:00.
Saturday Recovery Sessions: Relax , recover, rejuvenate and support your team while enjoying 50 per cent off menu price of all Velocity burgers and sandwiches. Plus the Velocity Mary for just Dh20.
Sunday Crafted Wings, buy 12 wings and get two craft beverages on the house.
Grant Forbes Reid, Velocity manager, said: “Velocity is a highly energetic and sophisticated sports bar and restaurant. Our food menu exists of three main components; gourmet burgers, lobster snacks and specialty wings, which is served alongside an extensive selection of draft and craft hops, and home infused cocktails.
“Whether you are looking to watch your favourite team play or looking for a night out with the girls, our state of the art audio visual system and flexible seating options enable a smooth transition from sports bar to a late night music venue.”
With the Europa League final between Manchester United and Ajax and the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Juventus all coming up, Velocity is the perfect place to watch.
Get down to Velocity at Marriott Downtown Abu Dhabi and accelerate the enjoyment of watching your team or any night out.
Choosing the right footwear to fit your health and fitness needs is just as important as the goals you set yourself on a daily basis, whether it’s in sport or the workplace.
The Reebok Floatride is an excellent running shoe that combines the optimal mix of cushioning and responsiveness, marking yet another coup in Reebok’s long history in producing the best footwear in the market.
The shoe offers cushioning, stability and a bouncy heel to help you get the best out of your sporting performance.
In addition, the Floatride is combined with a sock like seam-free one piece ultraknit construction to offer support and breathable flexibility, and to help balance the foot throughout your running stride.
Having competed in many long distance races over the past year, these runners are the best I’ve used so far. Not only are the Floatride’s breathable but their comfortable design allows athletes to push to the maximum.
What impresses me about the Floatride is how the cushioning softens the impact while you run. Other shoes don’t offer enough support so your feet always feel heavy during your training session. With the cushioning on offer in this exceptional Reebok model, you can run with confidence.
The price itself – at AED 645 – is mid-range but if you are a passionate runner and want to achieve your goals, then these shoes are the ideal fit.
Coming in a lovely combination of blue and black with a white sole, the design is stylish – but very much built for getting the best out of your training experience.
Overall, I was extremely impressed by the Floatride’s comfort, design and support – and I would definitely recommend them for any runner in the UAE or the Middle East.
