    What does it do?

The Sweetbeat app measures 3 areas, your resting heart rate, your heart rate variability and food sensitivity. You will need a compatible Bluetooth heart rate monitor strap in order for it to work properly. For example, I currently use the H7 from Polar, as it also works with my ipad and our Technogym treadmills.

    How does it work?

The best time to use the app is first thing in the morning when you wake up. Add a little water to your heart rate monitor strap to help with the accuracy of reading your heart, then sit back and relax for approximately 3-5 minutes. At this point it will take your resting heart rate, to see how efficiently you heart is beating. Between 60-100 beat per minute is an average score, but if you’re training regularly, then you’re more likely to be between 40-60bpm.

Therefore, by measuring your resting heart rate over a period of time, you can see how your heart is getting fitter and stronger by the number getting lower.

In addition to that, it will also take your Heart Rate Variability, which tests the strength of your CNS (Central Nervous System). For example, your resting heart rate could be 60 beats per minute. Therefore you would think it would be 1 beat every second for 60 seconds. However, it could be beat 0.85 seconds, 1.2 seconds, 0.99 seconds, and so on.

Beats that are very regular (every second for example) will give you a low heart rate variability score, as it shows that your heart is not as in tune with your body as it should be. If this is the case, the app will tell you that you should rest today, or to have a lighter workout. Thus allowing your body to recover, to then get itself more sensitive to the body’s needs and increase your heart rate variability score.

This is now being implemented by world famous sports teams for their athletes during training and even for matches. If their HRV is not high, they shouldn’t even play! This could also show the signs of potential flu or infections coming on if either your heart rate is higher than normal, or if you have a low HRV score.

The third feature of this amazing app is the food sensitivity section. Before eating a meal, it will ask for your resting heart rate. Once you’ve finished your meal, you then start the app. It will automatically take your heart rate on 3 separate occasions with 30 minute intervals. If at any point your heart rate rises more than 16 beats per minute over your normal resting baseline figure, it shows your body is working harder than it should to digest the food you have just eaten, as you are probably sensitive to it.

The less sensitive you are to a food, the easier you will digest it, the more energy you will have throughout the day! You’re likely to find that non-processed natural foods will be easily digestible. However, you may just come across an item that you react to. By then eliminating this from your diet you will see not only your energy increase, but other benefits such as clearer skin, less muscle and joint pain and better workouts.
