  • It was a big win for Saracens.

Defending west Asia champions Sarries are finishing the season strongly after a poor start and will be looking to cement their spot just behind the big three with victory in their final game of the season in two weeks time against Jebel Ali Dragons.

Sarries picked up a fourth bonus point of the campaign in victory thanks to tries from Ross Byres, skipper Jaen Botes, hooker Gio Fourie, Matt Hutchings and centre Garth van Niekerk, who has been impressive in his debut season in the capital.

Welshman Hutchings added three conversions for the home side, who are now a point above Canes with 20.

Former Abu Dhabi Harlequins player Paul Beard scored a brace of tries for the visitors, who have now lost two of their last three, while winger James Curran also crossed the whitewash.

It was the first time in eight West Asia Championship games that Canes had not scored a bonus point.

James Ham’s men will end their campaign against Dubai rivals Exiles.

Elsewhere, Bahrain and Al Ain Amblers served up a 100-point thriller in Saar, the hosts claiming a 64-41 victory.

Andrew Rouvi’s men again impressed in grabbing a try-scoring bonus point.

There was a hat-trick for the returning Tom Janikowski off the bench while fly-half Ollie Luke also helped himself to a brace.

In a thoroughly entertaining game, Bahrain raced into a 17-0 lead but they were pegged back by the visitors who replied with two scores of their own.

Tom Ham’s men were always in the ascendancy but couldn’t shake off a spirited Amblers to were always a threat and dominated the scrum, while the hosts bossed the lineout.
