  • Star attraction: World No1 Serena Williams is bidding for her first title in Dubai.

The ‘Girl Power’ tennis action continues at Dubai’s Aviation Club this weekend where the WTA event of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships will reach a stunning climax with the finals set for Saturday.

With tickets still available there’s no excuse not to come down and catch all your favourite female names in tennis as they vie for honours and a slice of the $2 million (Dh 7.34m) prize purse, right here on your doorstep in an award-winning venue.

And bring the entire family with you as side activities include a bustling Tennis Village with interactive stalls, live entertainment and performances, daily competitions and promotions, and big screens tuned to the action happening live in the stadium.

Not to mention there is yet more atmosphere to be soaked up at the Club’s Century Village and Irish Village (both free to enter), two ‘best-in-Dubai’-voted venues for al fresco dining and socialising, both open well after the tennis ends each day.

Ladies are especially well looked after this Thursday as it’s Ladies Day; a chance to get glammed up and gather your gal pals for a day of tennis, with coaching sessions available, special lunch offers and a ‘Dress to Impress’ competition.

The competition parade will take place at the Dubai Duty Free Shop in the Tennis Village at 6pm, and the top ten fashion-savvy finalists will be judged by selected players and will be featured in the tabloids and receive attractive prizes, so try not to be too fashionably late!

The overall winner gets two tickets to the women’s final, which would usually cost Dh500 a pop!

Held under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships is two weeks of some of the best tennis the Emirates has ever seen, and play will continue between 24 February and March 1 with the action-packed ATP tournament.

In the spotlight will be defending champion Novak Djokovic, five-time winner Roger Federer, recent Australian Open semifinalist and last week’s Rotterdam winner Tomas Berdych, former US Open winner and recent Sydney champion Juan Martin Del Potro, and charismatic Frenchman Jo- Wilfried Tsonga.

So let this weekend whet your appetite for more incredible performances to come.

The men’s tournament has won the ATP 500 Tournament of the Year nine times in the last decade. This award is voted on by the ATP players.
