  • Upbeat: Andy Murray.

World No9 Andy Murray has declared that his partnership with coach Amelie Mauresmo is a “long-term” arrangement, despite a disappointing experience at Wimbledon.

Murray hired the former women’s world No1 shortly before the grass-court season began, but his defence of the Wimbledon title he won in 2013 ended in the quarter-finals with a straight sets defeat to Grigor Dimitrov.

The Scot, however, says that he has enjoyed working with the Frenchwoman and is eager to pursue their collaboration.

“We’ve agreed to work together and I think from both sides we’re willing to do what it takes to make it work long-term,” Murray said ahead of the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

“I really enjoy working with her, she’s helped me a lot. She integrated well with the rest of the team. It’s been a good start. Now it’s about me producing the results.”

Murray will be competing in the ATP Masters 1000 in Toronto this week before heading to Cincinnati and then the US Open – the final major of the season.

Mauresmo and assistant coach Dani Vallverdu will both be accompanying the 27-year-old at the US Open.

“I sat down with her (Mauresmo) the day after Wimbledon, we made a plan for the next few months.

“In the build up to the US Open, Dani and Amelie will both be there at the US Open. That’s the plan for now, but I plan on working with her for longer than post-US Open, for sure.”

Murray, a two-time champion in Canada, is seeded No8 this week and has been drawn to potentially face world No1 Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.

He has a bye in the first round and opens his campaign against the winner of the contest between Rafael Nadal’s conqueror at Wimbledon, Australian teenager Nick Kyrgios, or Santiago Giraldo of Colombia, who is coached by former world No5 Fernando Gonzalez of Chile
