Stefanos Tsitsipas will be competing in Abu Dhabi

Stefanos Tsitsipas is the latest player confirmed for the Mubadala World Tennis Championship next month.

Hot on the back of his victory at the ATP World Finals in London, the Greek joins Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev in the men’s tournament.

The remaining to names on the men’s side are yet to be announced, but we do know the eight-player line-up also includes multiple Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova and the new women’s sensation Amanda Anisimova, who will face-off on day one of the championship on December 19.

Greek ace Tsitsipas rounded off a stellar 2019 season with victory over Dominic Thiem in the season finale in London on Sunday and his next stop will be a debut in the UAE capital.

Tsitsipas’ inclusion in the eight-player line-up for Abu Dhabi reinforces the Mubadala Tennis Championship promise to make way for the best in tennis and entertainment.

Tsitsipas achieved new heights in 2019, reaching his first Grand Slam semi-final at the Australian Open, beating World No.3 Roger Federer along the way, who he also beat in the last four of the ATP Finals. He won his second professional singles title at the Open 13 in Marseille
and also reached the final of the China Open in September.

His aggressive style of play will certainly be a crowd-pleaser when he makes his Abu Dhabi debut and adds a different flavour to the unique festival atmosphere of the people’s favourite Abu Dhabi event.

“Bringing the best of international tennis talent to Abu Dhabi is always our priority and Stefanos Tsitsipas is a rising star in the men’s game. At just 21 he has shown he can stand with the best. He is an exciting player with a very bright future and his dynamism and character are sure to be
a big hit with spectators,” said John Lickrish, CEO, Flash Entertainment.

Tsitsipas further bolstered his burgeoning reputation by beating four top-10 players in Federer, Medvedev, Thiem and Alexander Zverev on his way to the title in London. Known for his powerful groundstrokes, Tsitsipas is looking forward to putting on a good show in his maiden appearance and build on his strong 2019 performance, “This is my first time coming to Abu Dhabi and I want to make a great first impression at this tournament.”

“I’ve heard amazing things about the Mubadala World Tennis Championship and Abu Dhabi. The weather and the facilities make for the perfect destination to start the 2020 season and the organisers are putting together a really strong line-up,” added the Greek ace.

“You want to compete against the best at every opportunity and this Championship provides the chance to compete against the world’s top players.”

This December tennis fans in the UAE are in for a treat.

The Mubadala World Tennis Championship returns, and brings with it the usual array of superstars guaranteed to put on a show in Abu Dhabi.

Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova are just three of the eight names who will appear – and their pedigree needs no introduction.

Along with the other five combatants, they will put on a show the likes of which the capital has rarely seen.

To get the very best from a sporting occasion, however, you need the right setting. A stadium that puts fans at the heart of the action, makes a player’s heart beat faster, encasing the action with a wall of noise.

For tennis you think of Wimbledon’s Centre Court, or Arthur Ashe at Flushing Meadows. But we have a stunning venue right here on our doorstep.

The International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City is a cauldron.

With its steep stands it creates an amphitheatre with the crowd on top of the court – part of every point

There’s not a bad seat in the house with all vantage points giving the crowd a special piece of the action. You’ll be as close to the action as you have been before, hearing every breathe, murmur, and falling drop of sweat on the court – not to mention the thumping, high octane, hitting associated with the best players on the planet.

This is sporting theatre, and you have the best seats in the house. But it’s not only court-side you will have a great time at the Championship.

A vibrant tennis village will sprout up around the International Tennis Centre, with full-service F&B, live music at the main stage, special kids’ activities, Mubadala’s interactive zone and much more.
