  • Tennis enthusiasts in Dubai are in for a treat as one of the sport’s living legends is coming to the Emirate for a special tennis camp next week.

Former world No4 in singles and ex-No1 in doubles, Jonas Bjorkman, will be at the JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort from October 27-31, where he will be available for one-on-one coaching sessions.

The retired 41-year-old Swede, who was a constant fixture in the world’s top-75 in singles for over 14 years, was even more impressive in doubles, where he completed a career Grand Slam with three Wimbledon, two French Open, three Australian Open and one US Open titles. He amassed a total of 54 doubles trophies and six singles crowns in a career that lasted 18 years. He also made the semi-finals in singles at both Wimbledon and the US Open.

For those interested in getting up close and personal with the popular Swede, a 45-minute one-on-one session with him starts at Dh450.

Bjorkman’s coaching camp comes off the heels of a new partnership formed this month between JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort and the celebrated Sunball Tennis, to provide guests with access to their favourite sport along with dedicated and professional instructors.

“We are pleased to be working with such a renowned company as Sunball Tennis,” said Fredrik Reinisch, General Manager, JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort. “They bring a fresh new approach to sport at our resort and we are delighted to offer a comprehensive programme for both our guests and Dubai residents alike.

“The JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort has always prided itself in providing world-class sporting facilities and experiences for their guests, from a golf course to a shooting range and from waterskiing to windsurfing.”

Whether you’re an ace that needs some fine-tuning or a wild card that needs a new challenge, the pros of Sunball Tennis are now offering individual and group lessons for children, beginners, advanced players and professionals.

Ranging from Dh230 for a 45-minute individual lesson to Dh110 for a 60-minute group lesson, the classes are also open to all Dubai residents looking to enhance their skills.
