    The September ECCO Challenge at Yas Links was played to a four-man team stableford format, with the two best scores counting.

    The first place was bagged by a team of three players, with Bak Seng Tan, Ying Hoong Fun and Wong Ming Shiang combining well and not feeling the absence of a fourth player in compiling 96 points.

    That secured them victory by a massive margin of five point over the team of Greg Cox, Benjamin Weston, Ian Butler and Daniel Griffiths (91 points). Just one point behind the runners-up and completing the podium was the foursome of Alyx Bihuniak, Mike Langan, Rory O’brien and Kristian Chorlton.

    Another highlight of the day was Aart Lehmkuhl scoring a hole-in-one on the 13th hole.

    The next ECCO Challenge – Pairs will be held on Friday, October 16.

    Sjodoff negotiates EGC ‘Blind 9’ Stableford well

    The modified stableford formats continued to enjoy great support from Emirates Golf Club members with the ladies competing in an 18-hole stableford event on the Majlis course. However, it was only nine holes that counted towards their final score.

    The nine holes, which were chosen by the golf office and not revealed to the participants, were the first, third, fourth, sixth, eighth, 11th, 13th, 16th and the par-5 18th.

    Ingrid Sjodoff who scored 20 points over the selected nine holes, won the first prize after a countback over the selected holes of the back nine. Also on 20 points was Veronica Elias, who won the Silver division (handicap 0-23). Rajni Sud won the Bronze division (handicaps 24-42) with a nine-hole score of 19points.

    NAPCO to host eight tournaments in Muscat Hills

    National Aluminium Products Company SAOG (NAPCO) have signed up as sponsors of the NAPCO Monthly Mixed Doubles tournaments between September 2015 and May 2016 at the Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club.

    The tournament will be the first golf championship in the Sultanate of Oman that features a mixed team of male and female golfers.

    Robert Holtkamp, CEO, NAPCO, said: “Aside from providing amateur golfers with a platform to display their talent, it will encourage women golfers to improve their game. We will introduce different formats for each of the eight events to keep the game exciting, entertaining and memorable.”

    Other notable sponsors include Dessange Oman Salon & Spa and Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa.

    Fantastic nine-hole effort lands Cho Sharjah title

    My Cho claimed her first victory of the summer in the Centro Sharjah by Rotana Midweek Medal supported by Mekar by shooting an incredible nine-hole score of 31 net. Cho carded five pars, three birdies and one eagle during the round at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club.

    The Division winners on the day were Amir Inam with 33 net and Chandra Shekar with 38 net.

    The next Centro Sharjah by Rotana Midweek Medal is on Tuesday, September 29.

    Entries open for Mixed Open at Yas Links Abu Dhabi
    The much anticipated Yas Links Mixed Open is set for Saturday, October 10, as a 7:15am shotgun start at Yas Links Abu Dhabi.

    The tournament format will be a Betterball Stableford, with each two person team consisting of one male and one female golfer. The handicap index limit is 36 for ladies and 28 for men.

    Entries are now being accepted and the closing date is Tuesday, October 6. Entries will be accepted on first-come, first-served basis. 

    The entry fee per player is Dh100 for Yas Links members, Dh450 for member’s guests, Dh525 for EGF members and Dh650 for guests. Entry fee is inclusive of lunch and golf cart.
