  • Winning start: Team Abu Dhabi won the opening round in Fujairah on its debut in the XCat World Series this season.

There’s all to race for when the second round of the 2015 UIM XCat World Series gets underway at the Mina Seyahi in Dubai this weekend.

After a dramatic first round in Fujairah, which was delayed by a day due to high winds and rough seas, Team Abu Dhabi (Rashed Al Tayer and Faleh Al Mansoori) took the early lead and currently top the standings with 36 points.

Just six points behind them are the Italian duo of Tomaso Polli and Matteo Nicolini in Hoorsenbuhs, while another new addition to the series, Swecat Racing (Erik Stark and Mikael Bengtsson), occupy third spot with 28 points.

Last year’s champions Fazza (Arif Al Zaffain and Nadir bin Hendi), who made a clean sweep of all the races in the 2014 series, had a forgetful outing in Fujairah last month after their engine caught fire, forcing the pair to retire. They are now languishing in eighth spot.

Their seven points were earned following victory in the Dubai Duty Free Speed Cat Run (which for the first time this year counts towards the overall series’ points total). The pair will be looking to make amends over the weekend and get back to winning ways in Dubai.

The action gets underway at Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) on Thursday with the first official practice.

The race for pole position and the thrilling head-to-head Dubai Duty Free Speed Cat Run will take place on Friday from 14:30 while the main event, the Dubai Grand Prix, will kick off on Saturday afternoon at 16:00.

Entry to the general public areas at DIMC is free of charge where families can venture down to catch all the action from the jetty with plenty of other exciting activities on offer for all ages.
