GALLERY: Most managerial changes in a year

New Valencia coach Cesare Prandelli watched on from the stands before officially taking charge on Monday, but other than Diego Alves taking his record of saved penalties to 22 from 45 faced in Spanish football, there were few positives for the Italian.

Prandelli is the fourth manager to take over the reigns at the Mestalla Stadium over the last 12 months.

Here’s a look at the teams who have made the most managerial switches in a year.

VALENCIA: 5 – 2015/16

Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign ended on November 29, 2015. Salvador Gonzalez “Voro” took over before Gary Neville and then Pako Ayestaran were appointed. Voro then oversaw another transition before Cesare Prendelli’s arrival.

CHELSEA: 4 – 2008/09

World Cup winning coach Luis Felipe Scolari took charge at Stamford Bridge on July 1, 2008. Following a series of disappointing results, he was sacked and Ray Wilkins took over as caretaker manager.

Guus Hiddink then swooped in and steadied the ship on a short-term basis before Carlo Ancelotti was appointed on July 1, 2009.

ATLETICO MADRID: 7 – 1993/94

Ramon Heredia had two brief stints with the club in 1993 separated by a short stay for Jair Pereira. Emilio Cruz was the last manager in 1993 before Jose Luis Romero kick-started 1994. Iselin Santos Ovejero and Jorge D’Alessandro followed him soon after.

MARSEILLE: 5 – 2000/2001

Bernard Casoni left his post on July 30, 2000 and was succeeded by Abel Braga before the duo of Albert Emon and Christophe Galtier took charge. Javier Clemente then lasted five months before Tomislav Ivic stayed for a month before his sacking on July 30, 2001.

PALERMO: 8 – 2015/16

Maurizio Zamparini has a reputation for sacking managers and Davide Ballardini was the latest on the Palermo chief’s chopping block after starting the sacking parade in November 2015.

Fabio Viviani, Giovanni Tedesco, Giovanni Bosi, Giuseppe Iachini and Walter Novellino filled in before Ballardini’s reappointment in April this year which only led to his subsequent sacking last month.

Roberto De Zerbi is the latest to accept the poisoned chalice.
