  • This morning, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored away from home for the first time since November to help Real Madrid take a two-goal advantage back to the Bernabeu in their last-16 tie against Roma in the Champions League.

    Ronaldo, who had walked out of a pre-match press conference when asked about his goal scoring form away form home was the man to break the deadlock in Rome on 57 minutes. The game finished 2-0 to Real Madrid.

    Wolfsburg also grabbed an away win, beating Gent by three goals to two in their last-16 tie.

    Back in Spain, Messi continued his goal scoring exploits, as he became the first man to score 300 goals in La Liga.

    Messi scored twice in quick succession to reach 301 goals in total as Barcelona beat Sporting Gijon 3-1 to go six points clear at the top of La Liga.

    Wayne Rooney will be out for around six weeks, Manchester United have confirmed. It is likely the England striker will miss eight matches for United as well as England’s friendlies against Germany and the Netherlands in late March.
