Antoine Griezmann declared he is looking to become a “key player” as he was unveiled at Barcelona on Sunday.

The 28-year-old striker moved to the Camp Nou this week from Atletico Madrid after the Catalans met his €120million buy-out clause.

He was unveiled at the club’s stadium at a press conference on Sunday evening and the France international spoke about his intention to make an impact at Barcelona.

“A new challenge. I will try to challenge myself. Not to feel too comfortable but rather go out there to try to find my own place,” said the French World Cup winner.

“To become a starting player and become a key player in a new great club. And to try to win La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League. What is left for me to have in my trophies shelf.”

New signing Antoine Griezmann is looking forward to being an important player for Barcelona and is relishing the chance to play alongside Lionel Messi.

The 28-year-old striker moved to the Camp Nou this week from Atletico Madrid after the Catalans met his €120million buy-out clause.

He was unveiled at the club’s stadium at a press conference on Sunday evening and the France international spoke about his intention to make an impact at Barcelona.

“I want to be an important player at this great club, and I will try to win La Liga, as well as the Copa del Rey and the Champions League – the trophies missing from my curriculum,” reported Barcelona’s website.

“I’ve worked hard to be an important player in every position. I can play on the left, the right or in the middle, but the only thing that matters is doing well in order to help the team. I offer passing play, assists, goals and joy in my game.”

“It’s always difficult to leave somewhere in which you are comfortable. I have a lot of admiration and respect for Atletico Madrid, and I gave my all for them, right to the end. However, now I want a new challenge, I want to better myself and step out of my comfort zone.”

Asked about having Messi, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, as a team-mate, Griezmann said: “I’m very happy. It’s a joy for me to play alongside him.

“He is the number one player for me, like Lebron James in the NBA. He is someone that every player can look up to, and he will be a legend to my children – and my children’s children in the future.”

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu revealed the difficulties his club had in making the deal happen.

He said: “He is a player whom we have wanted to incorporate into the team for a while. It hasn’t been easy to bring him here but we try to improve the team every year, and with the signing of Griezmann the team will take an important step up.

“We had to pay his buyout clause. We have requested a loan of €35 million, to be repaid over six months, and the other €85 million came from payments that we were waiting to receive.”

Griezmann scored 133 goals in 257 games for Atletico after joining them from Real Sociedad in 2014.

Philippe Coutinho's agent lashes out at Barcelona for lack of clarity on player's future

Philippe Coutinho’s agent Kia Joorabchian has lashed out at Barcelona, accusing the club of working behind the back of the player in trying to get rid of him.

He claims that the Spanish giants addressed the Brazilian’s situation and made it clear that they want him to stay. The player and agent were hence saved the trouble of looking for another club.

Joorabchian has now accused Barcelona’s Brazil advisor Andre Cury of trying to include Coutinho in a potential Neymar deal despite mentioning no such thing in their meeting.

“I will not let people talk about Philippe and put him down because for one-and-a-half years we have said nothing,” he told the Telegraph . “I won’t let them do that and all of us in Philippe’s camp will not let that happen because Barcelona have told us he is staying.”

“The president [Bartomeu] was clear: he had no intention of selling the player, to any club,” Joorabchian also told RMC Sport.

“With that, and out of respect for Barcelona’s decision to keep him, we chose not to look at the market for our player and we have not offered the player to other clubs.

“But I learned, and it’s a fact, that Andre Cury is saying totally different things. Andre Cury is pushing for Coutinho to be included in the transfer for Neymar.

“As I said, Coutinho has no offer from any other clubs because we respected Barcelona’s decision, but they do not respect the word they gave to us.

“We have been silent in this period, but it will not be allowed for Barcelona to lie about the player. They must tell the truth.

“And if they want Coutinho to leave, they have to say it. With the player, we will decide what is best for his future.”
