Quique Setien was handed his first defeat as head coach of Barcelona on Saturday as Valencia notched up a 2-0 win at the Mestella.
The LaLiga leaders were made to look ordinary by the hosts who rode on a brace from Maxi Lopez to register an impressive win. It could have been a lot worse for Barcelona if goalkeeper Andre Ter Stegen had not saved a penalty by Lopez in the first-half of the game.
The loss was Barcelona’s fourth of the league campaign and has put their top spot in the table in jeopardy. Arch-rivals Real Madrid could move in front of them if they attain a victory in their upcoming clash against Valladolid.
The defeat for Setien’s Barca comes hot on the heels of their unimpressive Copa del Rey victory over lowly Ibiza where a late brace from Antoine Griezmann saved their blushes.
