  • A first Test century from Rory Burns put England in control of the first Ashes Test against Australia at Edgbaston on Friday – and for the man himself it was a dream come true.

Burns batted through the entire day to finish on 125 not out, with England on 267 for 4, just 17 runs behind going into day three – he later described it as “a wonderful experience.”

Burns became the first England batsman to score their maiden Test hundred in an Ashes Test since Tim Robinson back in 1985 and helped frustrate the Australia bowlers.

“We had a connect with some past players and some 2005 Ashes winners the night before and I was literally ready to run through a brick wall at that stage and get right amongst it,” revealed Burns.

“The night before I probably played my first ball a few times and I probably celebrated a hundred a couple of times and to then get over the line today is a wonderful feeling, it’s a pretty wonderful experience to have.”
