  • Video reaction from St. Mary’s Stadium after Leicester City thrashed 10-man Southampton 9-0 in the English Premier League on Friday, equalling the competition record.

Back in 1995, Manchester United beat Ipswich Town by the same score with Peter Schmeichel in goal – on this night his son, Kasper was between the sticks for Leicester.

There were also hat-tricks for Ayoze Perez and Jamie Vardy – only the second time two players have hit three in the same game for the same side in the English top flight.

The Saints had Ryan Bertrand sent off for a high tackle on Perez after just 12 minutes, precipitating the rout.

The result was Southampton’s heaviest defeat ever and lifted Leicester above Manchester City into second place in the table, although City have yet to play this weekend.

“Our idea coming in (to the season) was to be as competitive as we possibly could and finish as high as we possibly can,” said Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers. “And I don’t ever want to put any limits on that.”
