  • Lionel Messi continues to lead the goal-scoring charts across Europe’s top five leagues.

The prolific Argentine scored in Barcelona’s 2-0 La Liga win away to Girona on Sunday, taking his tally to 19 goals in as many league appearances.

Young French prodigy Kylian Mbappe his hot on his heels though, bagging 18 goals in 15 Ligue 1 appearances after scoring again in Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-1 win at home to Rennes. He also boasts the best goals per game ratio among the top five scorers.

Team-mate Edinson Cavani is not too far behind either with 16 goals from 14 games after bagging a brace in the same game at the Parc des Princes.

Sampdoria forward Fabio Quagliarella scored a brace in a 4-0 win over Udinese over the weekend to equal Gabriel Batistuta’s record of netting in 11 consecutive Serie A games. The 35-year-old is now level with Cavani on 16 goals after 20 appearances.

Finally, also on 16 goals, is Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has racked up his tally over 23 appearances after starting the season rather slowly.
