  • Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock paid his respects at the funeral of Emiliano Sala in his home town of Progreso on Saturday.

Warnock and the club’s CEO Ken Choo travelled to Argentina for the funeral of striker Sala, who died when the plane chartered by pilot David Ibbotson crashed in the English Channel on January 21.

The 28-year-old had travelled from Nantes to Cardiff having completed his move to the Premier League side.

Sala’s body, which was recovered from the wreckage following a privately-funded search, was repatriated in Argentina on Friday, and Warnock and Choo attended the funeral, held in Progreso in the Argentinian province of Santa Fe.

“You look around the whole village here, and it’s like the whole village is part of it. I’ve never known anything like it,” Warnock told reporters.

Warnock refused, however, to answer questions on the legal aspect of Sala’s contract, and both he and Choo underlined the importance of their attendance at the funeral in representation of the Welsh club.
