  • Arsene Wenger said on Monday that he is keen to return to football management, after the 69-year-old admitted he “cannot live” without the excitement of “being on a bench again”.

Wenger also revealed that he sometimes felt “a bit bitter” since his 22-year tenure at Arsenal came to an end in May 2018.

But the Frenchman is now ready to move on with his career and is happy to be “disconnected” from the English Premier League club.

Wenger suggested he could be interested in managing a team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar – a tournament where he expects a European nation to claim international football’s biggest prize.

The 2022 World Cup will be held in November and December of that year with all teams based in close proximity to each other.

“No I still… I still cannot live today with the fact that I would never be on a bench again,” explained Wenger. I might go for an intermediate position. What I want, for sure, is to share what I know, what I have learned as much as I can in the game.

“But I would like to experience one more time the intensity of competition, yes.”
