A Bolivian player was taken to hospital by a taxi after fracturing his ankle during a local league match on Sunday, because an ambulance driver was not present at the stadium.
Oriente Petrolero defender Mario Cuellar injured himself during Bolivia’s first division match against Guabira in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
Cuellar fractured his ankle and was taken to the ambulance on a stretcher.
But, according to Bolivian website “diez.bo”, an ambulance driver was not present at the time.
Medical staff from Petrolero as well as Cuellar’s relatives carried the stretcher throughout the streets looking for a taxi to take the player to hospital.
Oriente Petrolero lost 1-2 to Guabira.
“Diez.bo” also reports that the ambulance driver did arrive in the stadium later, but the player was already being treated in a hospital.
